Tolzien heads into his second season with the Colts as the clear No. 2 option on the team's QB depth chart. The undrafted quarterback played in three games last season for an injured Andrew Luck, but lost his only start against the Steelers on Thanksgiving night. On the season, Tolzien went 23 of 37 passing (62.2) for 216 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. While he has proven to be a capable backup, Colts' fans hope he remains just that, but nothing is set in stone as starter Luck recovers from right shoulder surgery.
Tolzien heads to Indianapolis after spending the past three seasons under Aaron Rodgers' wing in Green Bay. With the retirement of Matthew Hasselbeck in the offseason, the 28-year-old inherits the number two spot on the depth chart behind franchise quarterback Andrew Luck. Luck dealt with several injuries last season but all signs point to a healthy return to the field in 2016 which means Tolzien should spend most of his time on the sidelines.
Tolzien will be the clear backup quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers this season with Matt Flynn out of town. The Packers are hoping he only sees the field when Rodgers is resting, but in the case he is needed for more, he does have two career starts under his belt.
Tolzien played in three games for the Packers last season and even started two, but he will head into 2014 as the team's third quarterback behind a healthy Aaron Rodgers and backup Matt Flynn.
Signed with the Packers' practice squad in September.
Tolzien will probably make the team as the number three quarterback in San Diego. He holds Wisconsin school records for career completion percentage at .681 and career QB efficiency rating of 153.2, and he was second-team All-Big Ten in 2010.
