Lattimore is considering retirement due to his ongoing knee issues, ESPN reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Lattimore's knee problems date back to college, and while the 49ers used a fourth-round pick on him in the 2013 draft, only months after tearing every ligament in his right knee and dislocating his knee cap, he has yet to play a single game for the team after spending the entire 2013 season on the non-football injury list. He has returned to practice recently, albeit in a very limited basis since he's still on the non-football injury list. With no clear plan to get back on the field, Lattimore appears to be nearing the conclusion that he'll end his playing career and focus on life after football. No final decision has been made yet, but his agent said he plans to meet with team officials Monday to discuss his future.
Lattimore (knee) is unlikely to play this season, according to CSNBayArea.com's Matt Maiocco.

Lattimore (knee) is expected to return to practice following the 49ers' Week 8 bye, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

The coaching staff reportedly believes Lattimore is ready to test his surgically-repaired knee, but the team will wait to return him to practice until after the bye, as to delay the 21-day window for deciding whether or not to activate him from the non-football injury list. If all goes well upon his return to practice, Lattimore could join the active roster by mid-November, but it's hard to imagine him leaping Frank Gore or Carlos Hyde on the depth chart this season.
Lattimore (knee) has been placed on the non-football injury list, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports.

Lattimore is a likely candidate to be placed on the non-football injury list for the second consecutive season, CSN Bay Area reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Lattimore (knee) seemed to be progressing well during minicamp, but he was shut down for training camp. If he does indeed begin the year on the NFI list, he wouldn't be eligible to return to the field until week 7. Either way, Lattimore's recovery from a gruesome 2012 knee injury isn't going as smoothly as the 49ers had thought when they drafted him with a fourth round pick in 2013.
Coach Jim Harbaugh stated that he received a "good report" on Lattimore from those in charge of his rehab, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Lattimore (knee/hamstring) still hasn't returned to practice and doesn't have a timetable for his return. However, he has been amping up his rehab routine, which includes sprinting, cutting, broad-jumping, and working with a medicine ball. The 49ers have taken a hit in the running back department this offseason, so having a healthy Lattimore would be very beneficial, but the team appears to be a taking a cautious approach with their 2013 fourth-round pick.

2013

Lattimore, a rookie out of South Carolina, has dealt with two major knee injuries but could be a long-term home run pick for the 49ers given his talent as a running back.
