Mauti was released by the Saints on Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mauti has spent the last three seasons on the bayou after beginning his career in Minnesota. Although he was largely used as a special teams player in 2017, the Penn State product did start two games at linebacker. Given Mauti's relative youth and sizable experience, look for him to latch on elsewhere before training camps open.

As a backup linebacker, Mauti made 37 tackles (26 solo) in 16 games for the Saints in 2015, including a three-game stretch between Weeks 9 and 12 in which he recorded 24 total tackles. Although the New Orleans-area native is likely to make the Saints' final roster, Mauti will almost certainly be in a backup role again, limiting his upside in fantasy leagues.
Mauti worked as a reserve linebacker and special teams player last season for the Vikings, but he was cut by the team at the end of training camp this year. Mauti was claimed off of waivers by the Saints a few days later, however, he is still a long shot to make much of a fantasy impact in 2015.
Mauti will be a backup but could fight for playing time at middle linebacker. He'll be a year removed from this third ACL surgery, so he could improve significantly in his second professional season.
Mauti will try to win a role as a reserve linebacker. The 2013 seventh-round draft pick is recovering from a torn right ACL, and he also tore the same ACL in his left knee in 2009.
