RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for David Patten.

2010

At 35, it's uncertain how much Patten has left in the tank, especially considering his last production in the NFL worth mentioning (54 catches) came in 2007. Still, it's worth noting that during his previous stint with the Patriots in 2001-04, he enjoyed a nice rapport with QB Tom Brady, displaying a knack for the occasional big play. At the very least, Patten provides some wideout depth in the months ahead with Wes Welker's status for the start of the season in question.

2009

Will add veteran depth to a receiving corps which, outside of Braylon Edwards' outstanding 2007 season, has struggled for a while now.

2008

Patten bounced back last season with 54 receptions and 792 yards as a solid number two guy behind Marques Colston, but figures to see a smaller role this season. The growth of Robert Meachem and Devery Henderson will likely dig into Patten's output. Jeremy Shockey has been rumored to be on his way to the Saints for months, which would only hurt Pattens value. With that said, if Patten can hold down the number two slot and stay healthy, he should see similar production to 2007's campaign.

2007

Patten is coming off an extremely disappointing two-year stint with the Redskins in which injuries limited him to just 14 games and 23 catches. Though expectations for Patten are low, every spot behind Marques Colston on the depth chart at wideout is up for grabs, and Patten is the only true veteran fighting for one of the spots. He's shown in the past that he's capable of putting up solid numbers, catching 61 passes and five touchdowns in 2002. Though those days are likely long behind him, he is worth keeping an eye on in training camp, because if he cracks the top three on the depth chart he should be able to put up some decent numbers in the Saints' potent offense. Consider him a supersleeper whose status is worth monitoring in deeper leagues.

2006

Had a poor 2005 season before suffering a season ending knee injury. It came out this offseason he was not happy with the team's decision to put him on injured reserve as he felt he was healthy enough to contribute down the stretch. Regardless, it appears Patten is being phased out before he even got a chance. With new recievers Brandon Lloyd and Antwaan Randle El in the mix, Patten will have to outplay one of them early on to put up any fantasy relevant numbers.

2005

Patten will be the Redskins number two receiver. He is expected to stretch the field along with fellow wideout Santana Moss. Both receivers are small but very fast and can generate yards after the catch. However, with an unproven quarterback in Patrick Ramsey and a passing attack that ranked 29th in the league last year he is not expected to put him big numbers in 2005.

2004

With the emergence of Deion Branch and David Givens, and both veteran Troy Brown and the promising Bethel Johnson around, Patten, who has had his moments with the Pats, is unlikely to make much of a fantasy impact in 2004.
