Williams (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Williams suffered the concussion in last Thursday night's game against the Broncos and was eventually admitted to the local hospital. To no surprise, the Colts will exercise caution with the tight end and shut him down for the rest of the season. Williams was primarily used on special teams in 2017.

Williams has been a bit of a journeyman since joining the league in 2013 with stints in Carolina, Miami, and Seattle. The 29-year-old signed with the Colts in the offseason and will compete for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart after the Colts traded former starter Dwayne Allen to the Patriots, turning the TE reins to Jack Doyle and Erik Swoope.
Williams is an intriguing tight end at 6-4, 250, with 4.56 speed, who also played college basketball. His collegiate football career ended after one season (and two catches) at Oregon when he was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. He was cleared to return to football in 2013 and played 29 games the last three years with Carolina and Miami. Williams' chances of making the roster likely hinge on whether the Seahawks keep four tight ends. The Seahawks like his work on special teams and his excellent blocking skills. Williams could also play some fullback, which would allow the team to keep an extra running back instead of a traditional fullback. He won't see many targets, if any, however.
A converted basketball player, Williams was signed by Carolina as an undrafted rookie tight end last season. While he featured in nine games, Williams was mostly used on special teams. Said to have added seasoning this offseason, Williams enters the upcoming campaign behind Greg Olsen and Ed Dickson on the Panthers' depth chart.
