Kelvin Benjamin: Past News Updates   ( ▲ View most recent update )

Benjamin (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, the Panthers' official site reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

The severity of Benjamin's injury is unknown, but an absence isn't very encouraging to begin the week of preparation for Sunday's game versus the Steelers. Nevertheless, the standard set by the rookie wideout through two weeks is intriguing, both in reality and fantasy, as he's garnered eight targets in both contests. Expect clarity regarding his status as the week continues.
Benjamin finished with 46 receiving yards from two catches on eight targets during Sunday's win over the Lions.

Benjamin caught one pass for 29 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason opener against the Bills.

Though Cam Newton (ankle) didn't play, Benjamin still managed to impress in his first taste of the NFL. The rookie was targeted on the Panthers' first pass play of the game, and he later hauled in a 29-yard touchdown, despite tripping while the ball was in the air. Benjamin's hands were frequently criticized in the pre-draft process, but he has often shown the ability to pull off the difficult catches, even if he can improve his consistency. With his competition for targets coming in the form of Jerricho Cotchery and Jason Avant, it may not be long before Benjamin establishes himself as the Panthers' top receiver. It may have already happened.
Benjamin (knee) returned to practice Saturday, the Associated Press reports.

Wearing a compression sleeve on his left leg, Benjamin was impressive during Saturday's practice and consistently hauled in anything within range from quarterback Cam Newton. Benjamin appears to be OK after a five-day absence as a result of the injury, giving him valuable time to establish himself as one of Newton's primary targets as the preseason schedule gets closer.
Benjamin, who bruised his left knee last this past Sunday, could return to practice as soon as Saturday, the Charlotte Observer reports. "He ran well today," Panthers coach Ron Rivera noted Friday. "Depending on how he is first thing in the morning, he'll probably be on the field tomorrow."

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Following the departures the team's top four wideouts (in terms of catches) from last season, Benjamin has a golden opportunity to start for the Panthers out of the gate, with his 6-5, 240-pound frame giving him red-zone upside that could translate into value in TD-heavy formats.
Benjamin, who suffered a bone bruise in his left knee, is expected to be sidelined for about a week, NFL.com reports.

Moreover, coach Ron Rivera indicated that there was no structural damage in the rookie wideout's knee. That said, it's unclear when he'll be able to return to practice, though at this stage, he appears to be in the day-to-day category, as opposed to a week-to-week scenario.
