2015

The 6-0, 220-pound Gaffney, whom the Panthers selected in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, was waived after he suffered a knee injury last summer and was subsequently claimed off waivers by the Patriots. He as was a candidate to give the New England running back corps another power option to go along with fellow "big backs" LeGarrette Blount and Jonas Gray before he was wived/injured in August.

2014

Gaffney was drafted by the Panthers in the sixth round out of Stanford, after rushing for 1,709 yards and 21 touchdowns last season. The 5-11, 220-pouder sustained a season-ending torn lateral meniscus in training camp, which led to him being waived by Carolina, but the Patriots claimed him and are evidently prepared to stash him on their roster this season. With Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen and Brandon Bolden all in the final year of their contracts, Gaffney -- assuming he is indeed retained by the Patriots -- would then be in line to push for a roster spot with the team next season.
