Closer Watch

Texas - The Rangers didn't make a move for a front-line closer prior to Sunday's trade deadline, but they did acquire two top-notch setup guys in Mike Adams and Koji Uehara. Either of those guys could step in in the ninth inning of Neftali Feliz continues to be inconsistent, but their presence in the later innings should also help the Rangers preserve more close leads heading into the ninth.

Arizona - J.J. Putz allowed an inherited runner to score in Sunday's win, but he has now nailed down four straight saves since returning from the DL last week. David Hernandez filled in valiantly while Putz was hurt, but he should not challenge for ninth-inning work.

Key Matchups

Jason Bourgeois, OF, HOU - It took 12 years for Bourgeois to land an everyday MLB job, but Bourgeois should slot as the Astros' leadoff man in the wake of Michael Bourn's trade. Bourgeois' 22 steals are impressive when you consider they came in just 54 games, but they become even more impressive when you realize that he only had 57 stolen base opportunities, that is he was on base with the sequential bag open. That is a rate of 39 percent. To compare, steals leader Bourn stole the next bag in about 19 percent of his opportunities. Bourgeois' run total may lag compared to other leadoff men since the Astros have gutted their lineup, but he makes for a good speed option for the season's final two months.
