Closer Watch - A closer look at intriguing ninth-inning situations (check out our Closer Grid with the link to the left).

Boston – With Alfredo Aceves suspended following a tirade in Bobby Valentine's office, Mark Melancon was able to secure Sunday's save. Aceves will have his suspension listed after Monday's game. The closer's job appears to be open for competition right now, though Andrew Bailey would certainly be the favorite. Bailey was unavailable Sunday after pitching three days in a row.

Philadelphia – With Jonathan Papelbon unavailable Sunday, the Phils turned to Josh Lindblom for the save. It was converted successfully, but there is no threat to Papelbon's security.

San Diego – The Padres used Luke Gregerson for Sunday's save, while Dale Thayer was on the paternity list. The two could continue to battle for saves with Huston Street on the shelf.

Ike Davis, 1B, NYM – His first two months of the season were almost unforgiveable, and chances are that if you owned Davis in April and May you just won't touch him for the rest of the season. Since June Davis has hit 19 of his 24 home runs and hitting .261 with an OPS in the .850 neighborhood. Those stats won't blow you away, but they are good enough that you should take notice. The Mets have him slotted as the cleanup hitter and he will play every day.
