Here are our rankings for the coming week at each position to help you decide your starting lineup. Our rankings are based on the following scoring system: three points for a passing touchdown; six points for a rushing/receiving touchdown; one point for every 20 passing yards; and one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards. Flex Rankings are for PPR leagues. All the position rankings will be updated twice per week, once on Wednesday night, once on Friday night.

Pittsburgh and Indianapolis are on bye this week.

Updated 9/28

Quarterback

1.Aaron Rodgers GB vs. NO
Note: Finally draws a good matchup against the Saints. But last year, with one game excepted, matchups didn't matter until the playoff game against the Giants.
2.*Tom Brady NE at Buf
Note: (Shoulder) Limited in Wednesday's practice. *** Wasn't on subsequent injury reports later in the week. ***
3.Robert Griffin WAS at TB
4.Eli Manning NYG at Phi
5.Matt Ryan ATL vs. Car
6.Peyton Manning DEN vs. Oak
7.Cam Newton CAR at Atl
8.Drew Brees NO at GB
Note: Giving the Packers' defense a little more credit, moving Brees down five slots.
9.Michael Vick PHI vs. NYG
Note: Nine turnovers in three games. Despite that, there's no notion from coach Andy Reid that Vick's job is in danger.
10.Josh Freeman TB vs. Was
Note: Dreadful game for Freeman against the Cowboys, but he draws the Redskins this week, which should be much better.
11.Joe Flacco BAL vs. Cle
Note: Gets to avoid Joe Haden in Thursday night's matchup.
12.Andy Dalton CIN at Jac
Note: Dalton faced some of the worst coverage I've ever seen in the NFL. The takeaway - start your QBs against the Redskins.
13.*Matthew Stafford DET vs. Min
Note: Strained a muscle in his leg - the Lions were incredibly vague about the injury - in Sunday's win over the Titans. Stafford's availability is uncertain for this week. Stafford missed Wednesday's practice, but worked with the first-team offense Thursday. *** Full practice Friday - listed as probable. ***
14.*Matt Schaub HOU vs. Ten
Note: Saw more of his ear lobe than I'll ever care to see from anyone ever again. He practiced without limitation Monday.
15.Ryan Fitzpatrick BUF vs. NE
16.Philip Rivers SD at KC
17.Alex Smith SF at NYJ
18.Tony Romo DAL vs. Chi
19.*Christian Ponder MIN at Det
Note: *** Listed as probable Friday after being a full participant in practice - dealing with a sore neck. ***
20.Carson Palmer OAK at Den
21.Matt Cassel KC vs. SD
22.Jake Locker TEN at Hou
23.Blaine Gabbert JAC vs. Cin
24.Jay Cutler CHI at Dal
25.Mark Sanchez NYJ vs. SF
26.*Kevin Kolb ARZ vs. Mia
Note: John Skelton is still two weeks away from being available to play.
27.Russell Wilson SEA at StL
28.Sam Bradford STL vs. Sea
29.Brandon Weeden CLE at Bal
30.Ryan Tannehill MIA at Ari
31.*Shaun Hill DET vs. Min
Note: Played well in relief of Stafford last week.

Running Backs

1.Maurice Jones-Drew JAC vs. Cin
2.*Arian Foster HOU vs. Ten
Note: *** (Knee) Listed as probable. ***
3.Ray Rice BAL vs. Cle
4.*LeSean McCoy PHI vs. NYG
Note: *** (Ribs) Listed as probable. ***
5.*Darren McFadden OAK at Den
Note: Sore shoulder, limited in Wednesday's practice. *** Listed as probable. ***
6.Marshawn Lynch SEA at StL
7.Michael Turner ATL vs. Car
Note: Turner had 80 yards on 14 carries against the Chargers. The DUI arrest won't limit his playing time in the near future.
8.Frank Gore SF at NYJ
9.Adrian Peterson MIN at Det
Note: Only with Peterson would 25 carries be described as a reduced workload - but that was the case last week, as he didn't carry the ball in the final five minutes.
10.Jamaal Charles KC vs. SD
Note: Exploded in a great matchup - now has full confidence in the knee, whereas he said that he didn't have that the first two weeks.
11.Ryan Mathews SD at KC
Note: Lost a critical fumble early - so he's in midseason form.
12.Doug Martin TB vs. Was
13.Stevan Ridley NE at Buf
Note: Fewer carries than Woodhead, robbed of two goal line opportunities.
14.BenJarvus Green-Ellis CIN at Jac
Note: Lost his first fumble as a professional last week against the Redskins.
15.DeMarco Murray DAL vs. Chi
16.Darren Sproles NO at GB
17.*Trent Richardson CLE at Bal
Note: (Knee) Full participant in early practice this week.
18.*Alfred Morris WAS at TB
Note: Upon further review I like the matchup less than I did earlier.
19.*Cedric Benson GB vs. NO
Note: *** Moving down a couple of notches now that James Starks is probable.***
20.*Willis McGahee DEN vs. Oak
Note: (Ribs) Day-to-day. Left Week 3's loss to the Texans early. Practiced Wednesday and Thursday. *** Listed as probable. ***
21.*Ryan Williams ARZ vs. Mia
Note: First semblance of success in the Cardinals' running game came from Williams late in the game. Much bigger opportunity with Wells out.
22.Ben Tate HOU vs. Ten
Note: Lost a fumble that helped keep the Broncos in the game last week.
23.Shonn Greene NYJ vs. SF
24.*Matt Forte CHI at Dal
Note: (Ankle) Expected to miss Monday night's game. Or then again, maybe not. Either way, I have to get a hyperbaric chamber. *** Limited practice participant Friday. ***
25.*Ahmad Bradshaw NYG at Phi
Note: (Neck) Guaranteed that he would be able to play Sunday night against the Eagles - the Giants medical staff has yet to weigh in, though. Official diagnosis is an inflamed disc in his neck. He will play this week, however, and could start, though Brown will still have a role.
26.*Chris Johnson TEN at Hou
Note: Lays another egg - just how low will you have to sell him if you try to trade now?
27.*Tashard Choice BUF vs. NE
Note: Choice had 20 carries for 91 yards after Spiller got hurt last week. Has to possible contend with Fred Jackson returning this week, though. Role remains uncertain, but chances are better now that at least he'll start. *** Both Jackson and Spiller are officially listed as questionable. ***
28.*Reggie Bush MIA at Ari
Note: Knee injury - conflicting reports on the severity. First indications suggested out until Week 8, now some reports suggest he could play even this week. Ran with the team Thursday in no-contact drills, looking more likely that he'll play. *** Limited again in Friday's practice, listed as questionable. It's a late game, so make sure you have an alternative if he's a game-time scratch. ***
29.*DeAngelo Williams CAR at Atl
Note: Another disappointing game if you consider that Stewart was out. That won't be the case this week.
30.*Andre Brown NYG at Phi
Note: Even though Bradshaw is coming back, Brown demonstrated that he at least should be a part of the offense. Bradshaw is back, and will start, though Coughlin said that Brown will still have a role in the offense.
31.*Daniel Thomas MIA at Ari
Note: Had 19 carries for 69 yards last week and was getting the red zone looks even before Reggie Bush hurt his knee.
32.*Mikel Leshoure DET vs. Min
Note: Surprising only in the extent that he dominated the running back opportunities. Limited in Thursday's practice by a groin injury. *** Listed as questionable. ***
33.*Daryl Richardson STL vs. Sea
Note: *** Could get more work with Steven Jackson a game-time decision again this week. ***
34.*Jonathan Stewart CAR at Atl
Note: (Ankle) Should play Sunday with a full week-plus to prepare, but as always we'll wait for the practice reports before moving him up. Limited by a toe injury in practice, though. *** Upgraded to probable. ***
35.*Danny Woodhead NE at Buf
Note: Woodhead had 15 carries against the Ravens, more than Stevan Ridley, and stole much of the goal line action.
36.*Lance Ball DEN vs. Oak
Note: It looks as if Ball could be the first choice if McGahee can't play.
37.Jacquizz Rodgers ATL vs. Car
Note: Getting more action, but that's tempered by the fact that Turner looked good against the Chargers.
38.Pierre Thomas NO at GB
39.*Michael Bush CHI at Dal
Note: Sore shoulder, plus now it looks as if Forte will play after all. *** (Shoulder) Not on the injury report. ***
40.*Fred Jackson BUF vs. NE
Note: (Knee) Giving himself a 70-75 percent chance of playing Sunday. Should practice Wednesday. Far less optimistic following practice Wednesday than before practice. *** Listed as questionable but with a legitimate shot at playing. Less soreness than earlier in the week. ***
41.*Bilal Powell NYJ vs. SF
Note: Got 10 carries against the Dolphins, and while he wasn't great (45 yards), he was far better than Shonn Greene. Role as the top backup secure with McKnight moving to defense.
42.*Lamar Miller MIA at Ari
Note: Had nine carries last week for 48 yards after Reggie Bush got hurt. Could play a much bigger role this week if Bush can't go.
43.*Shaun Draughn KC vs. SD
Note: Could have a bigger role if Hillis can't go this week.
44.Kendall Hunter SF at NYJ
45.Toby Gerhart MIN at Det
Note: Gerhart's three fumbles reduced any chance of a meaningful timeshare for him.
46.*Kevin Smith DET vs. Min
Note: Nary a single carry or catch against the Titans. *** Maybe back in the picture with LeShoure listed as questionable?***
47.Joique Bell DET vs. Min
48.*Steven Jackson STL vs. Sea
Note: (Groin) Appeared to emerge unscathed even without practicing all week. Didn't practice Thursday, though there's no report of a setback. *** Very limited in Friday's practice, will be a game-time decision again this week. ***
49.Bernard Pierce BAL vs. Cle
Note: Somehow was in there on a critical 4th down play instead of Rice last week, which at least suggests that the Ravens trust him quite a bit.
50.Mark Ingram NO at GB
51.Jackie Battle SD at KC
52.Robert Turbin SEA at StL
53.Felix Jones DAL vs. Chi
54.*James Starks GB vs. NO
Note: (Toe) Inactive once again in Week 3. *** Listed as probable - possible threat to Benson's good matchup. ***
55.*C.J. Spiller BUF vs. NE
Note: Injured shoulder, but with a good chance of returning in Week 5 and even an outside shot of returning this week. Did individual work Wednesday, did more Thursday, still it's dubious that he's going to play a major role this week. *** Listed as questionable. ***
56.Jason Snelling ATL vs. Car
57.Brandon Bolden NE at Buf
58.Ronnie Hillman DEN vs. Oak
59.*Rashad Jennings JAC vs. Cin

60.Mike Tolbert CAR at Atl
61.Bryce Brown PHI vs. NYG
62.*Evan Royster WAS at TB
Note: Day-to-day with a patella tendon issue. Enhanced role with Helu out for the year, though Ryan Grant now looms. (Knee) Limited at practice Thursday.
63.*Javon Ringer TEN at Hou
Note: *** (Elbow) Practiced all week, listed as probable. Might he take away some carries from CJ.04K? ***

83.*LaRod Stephens-Howling ARZ vs. Mia
Note: *** (Groin) Listed as doubtful. ***
84.*Beanie Wells ARZ vs. Mia
Note: Might have suffered a turf toe injury against the Eagles. More troubling is that Williams had some success running the ball, albeit late in the game. Placed on the IR-to-return list by the Cardinals, out eight weeks.
85.*Joe McKnight NYJ vs. SF
Note: Converted to defensive back.
86.*Roy Helu WAS at TB
