Closer Watch
New York Mets - Jenrry Mejia recorded his 20th save of the season Friday against the Phillies, pitching a perfect ninth and striking out the side in the process. He is firmly entrenched in the closer role, but was dealing with a back injury over the past couple weeks. He returned to the mound Sunday in the eighth inning and has since successfully converted two straight saves for the Mets.
San Francisco Giants- Santiago Casilla recorded his 12th save as the closer for the Giants on Thursday. While he doesn't necessarily have the longest leash compared to some of the other closers in the league, he has now successfully converted 12 of his last 13 opportunities after blowing each of his first three earlier in the season. While there are a plethora of relievers breathing down his neck, he appears to have the trust of manager Bruce Bochy at this point.
