Wednesday Daily Puck: Jason's X (Points)

Around the Rink

Apparently some dudes, and perhaps some ladies as well, in Edmonton played a hockey game for 250 straight hours. It's not official yet, but this would be a world record, to the extent Guinness truly decides what a world record is. They have done this five times, and set the old world record a few years ago by playing just over 246 hours. They raised a bunch of money for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. This doesn't really have anything to do with the NHL, but it's pretty cool, and worth shouting out. Especially since it is probably a million degrees below zero in Edmonton right now.

Hot

Jason Spezza, C, DAL – When the Stars added Jason Spezza, there was much made of a team with some young talent adding another good offensive player. He got off to a bit of a slow start, but he's been much better recently. Even though Tyler Seguin is now out, he hasn't slowed down. After picking up three assists Tuesday, he has a point in six straight games, and 10 points total in those games. All three of his assists Tuesday came on Jamie Benn goals, so as long as Benn is around, Spezza should be OK.

Scott Hartnell, LW, CLM – Columbus has had a down, injury plagued year, but Hartnell has had a nice season through it all. He actually can one up Spezza with his seven game point streak, although he has less overall points in this games, and he adds penalty minutes into the equation as well. The cagey old vet has some pep left in his step, it would seem.

Cold

Tommy Wingels, C, SAN – Wingels has returned from injury, which is good, especially since he got off to a nice start to the season. However, since returning, he's been ice cold, as he has zero points in five games, and he is a minus-5 in those games as well. Perhaps he just needs to find his footing, but if you were hoping for Wingels to give you a boost upon his return, no dice.

Loui Eriksson, LW, BOS – Eriksson has been pouring the shots on net, but the pucks are not getting past the netminder much these days. He does have a couple goals in his last 10 games, but three points in 10 games is not exactly equivalent to being on fire. Additionally, he has no points in his last four games, and is a minus-5 in those contests.

Recommended Pickup
Tyler Toffoli, C, LAK – Toffoli missed a smidge of time with injury, and he's still down the depth chart a bit with the Kings, but he's still a talented young player who has recently been playing very good hockey. He has 18 goals and 18 assists in 50 games, and he's also a plus-19 with 130 shots on net. Toffoli had a four points game against Calgary recently, and he's a young player you may want to hitch your apple wagon to.
