Today is like Christmas for NFL teams. Some teams will have their stockings stuffed with gifts, and some with coal. Until today, I have undertook the impossible practice of predicting the picks without trades. Today, I make an even more ridiculous prediction by trying to predict the trades that will happen in tonight's first round of the NFL Draft. Enjoy the craziness that follows. It'll make tonight seem rather tame. The Green means a team traded up to that spot, the pale red means the team traded down. All in all there were five trades predicted.

The Lions named Joe Barry, the son-in-law of coach Rod Marinelli, as their defensive coordinator on Wednesday. The hiring of Barry comes one day after the Lions fired defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson. The Lions allowed 24.9 points per game and ranked 28th in defense. Only San Francisco and Tennessee yielded more points than Detroit.

Another season, another year of little or no exposure. The 2004 NFL schedule was released Wednesday and Detroit learned that it will play just one game _ against Indianapolis on Thanksgiving at Ford Field _ on national television. Furthermore, the team was left off Monday Night Football's prime-time coverage for the third consecutive season. Considering the Lions went 5-11 a season ago, the announcement doesn't come as much of surprise, not even to coach Steve Mariucci. "You play your schedule. It doesn't matter,'' Mariucci told the Detriot Free Press on Wednesday. "We'll play on Monday night when the networks feel we're an intersting team to watch for the entire country, and that day will come soon.'' In the meantime, fantasy owners will have to settle for the post-game highlight shows to see how Joey Harrington, Charles Rogers and Jason Hanson fair on Sundays.
