Nicklaus was selected Wednesday as captain of the U.S Presidents Cup team for the third consecutive year, the Associated Press reports.

Nicklaus announced this year's British Open at St. Andrews will be his last competitive golf event. "From a tournament standpoint that will be it for me," Nicklaus told the Associated Press. "I will play a few skins games and father-sons, but from any kind of tournament involvement, that's it."

Nicklaus is likely to skip the Masters following the death of his 17-month-old grandson, the Associated Press reports.

Nicklaus said he will play in The Masters this year, the Palm Beach Post reports.
