Harrison Frazar: Has 3 starts remaining on major medical extension
February 17, 2016
Frazar has three starts remaining on a major medical extension, but he hasn't played in six months.
ANALYSIS
The 45-year-old veteran played 15 tournaments in the 2013-14 season and only seven last season. He has none so far this season. Frazar has three starts remaining on a longtime major medical extension. He needs to earn either 320.207 points or $510,686 to keep his card. That, of course, is highly unlikely, and who knows whether Frazar will even play again.

Frazar was the typical PGA TOUR journeyman until last year when he actually won an event. For the first time in his career he was free of the top-125 burden as he was exempt for two seasons. It looked like that freedom was going to open up some new doors for Frazar early last season as he posted top-5s in his first two starts, but after that hot start, Frazar faded. He will be back in the familiar spot of once again, fighting for the top 125 this season, and unless he turns his game around quickly, it could be a long year. There probably isn't enough upside to merit a selection in salary cap leagues, but he is a PGA TOUR winner, so he does have some value in draft formats.
It only took about a decade, but Harrison Frazar finally earned a PGA Tour victory. Frazar is the definition of a journeyman on the PGA Tour. He's spent most of the decade trying and ultimately failing to earn his card, but now he can relax, for two years. With his win at the FedEx St. Jude Classic last season, Frazar is now in uncharted territory. Had this win come 10 years ago, there might be reason to think that he'd take off, but considering that he's been grinding so long, there's not much upside anymore. At any rate, Frazar has spent much of the last decade in the sub-$1-million range, so card or no card, he's just too risky of a pick.
Being the medalist at last year's Q-School didn't do much for Frazier. Sure, he doesn't have to defend this title this year, but we've seen the best from Frazar, and it's nothing special.
The good news is Frazar seemed to finally tap his potential when he had a nine-week stretch where he finished no worse than 36th. In eight of those nine events he finished in the top 25. Here's the bad news: that run started with the B.C. Open and ran through the fall season. Frazar has more potential than most golfers around No. 98 on the money list, but he's shown a lack of consistency for years now, which makes it hard to think he'll have a breakthrough anytime soon. That said, the run late last year was enough to make him a solid choice for 2007.
Frazar is consistent, but consistently mediocre -- the type of guy you should aviod in fantasy drafts because he never wins. If he hasn't found a way to get over the $1 million mark in the last five years, you should safely avoid him and go with someone with more upside.
