Wilson had quite a year in 2006. He captured his lone PGA TOUR win and earned more than $2 million. He's never been able to recreate that magic, however, as the four years since have been either hit or miss. In the two years following his win, Wilson played well enough to remain safely inside the top 125, but he fell off the map in 2009 and only made a slight recovery in 2010. He still has enough to retain his card for the foreseeable future, but as we get farther away from 2006, his chances of returning to that form seem more unlikely. Wilson is short off the tee, but he's pretty solid everywhere else. One area, though, where he struggles is eagles per hole. He ranked 186th in that category last season.
Wilson had a career year in 2006 when he earned over $2.5 million and captured his first win on the PGA Tour. Since then however he's fallen back to the middle of the pack. You can count of Wilson to earn over $1 million this year, but don't count on a trip back into the $2 million range.
After a breakthrough 2006 season, Wilson had what can only be described as an unspectacular 2007 season. Not that is was unexpected. It's rare that a player comes out of nowhere and has as much success as Wilson had in 2006. It is even more rare when that player follows up that season with another great year. 2008 will be the year where he can show what he's got. At this spot on the money list, he's a pretty good value.
In 2004 Wilson teed it up 33 times and still needed Q-School to retain his tour card for 2005. After playing in only 27 events in 2005, Wilson barely hung onto his card for 2006. He was not about to lose that card in 2006, so he teed it up 34 times, more than anyone else in the top 125 last year. His win at the International in August secured his card for 2007 and 2008, so the only thing we know for certain is that he's unlikely to play 34 times in 2007. Other than that, Wilson is a hard one to peg. He showed no signs of the year he was about to have coming into 2006. Can he back it up in 2007? It's unclear how high the upside is here, so it's not that difficult to pass on him for 2007.
