RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2012

A few years ago, it commonplace to see Ogilvie in the Top 100 on the money list, but since 2009, he's struggled to stay within the Top 125. This looks to be a trend as it's been three years now that Ogilvie's status has come down to the wire. Ogilvie earned his card last season based primarily on his third-place finish at the Byron Nelson and not much else. Expect a similar season this year as Ogilvie will find his game once or twice this season, but for the most part he'll be a non-factor.

2010

Ogilvie has gone to Q School to earn his PGA Tour school after finishing 126th on the money list in 2009. The journeyman might be at the end of the road and I would take a flier on an up and coming player with more upside on draft day.

2009

A year after his first win on the PGA Tour at the US Bank Championship, Ogilvie had difficulty getting anything done on the weekend. He made a decent percentage of cuts, but often was left near the bottom of the leader board by Sunday afternoon. Ogilvie is not likely to win a big time event, but he plays a lot, and he always has a chance against weaker fields. Privately, his peers will tell you Ogilvie is the brightest guy on the tour today.

2008

Joe Ogilvie is a guy who'll play well early in the year, and at lower-tier events, such as the US Bank Classic which he won last year. Ogilvie is a player who should be around the million dollar mark each year. The only way he'll likely improve on his performance last year is to win another lower-tier event, and place well somewhere else along the way.

2007

After years of struggling on the PGA Tour, Ogilvie finally put it all together early in 2005. However, after a nice run through early spring he simply lost his game. It took nearly an entire year to find it. Not until July 2006 did he begin to resemble the player from early 2005. But resembling that player was the extent of Ogilvie's run in 2006. He did not reach the heights of his 2005 run, and one wonders if he will again. It's hard to pick players who have struggled for years, only to break through for a short period of time, then go back to their old ways. Ogilvie needs to show more consistency over a longer period before he becomes a solid pick.

2006

Ogilvie started 2005 on fire. Unfortunately, he could not keep up the pace. After the Shell Open in April he did no better than 15th the rest of the season. Ogilvie didn't do enough previous to 2005 to make me think his 2005 run was nothing more than a hot streak. To get to the next level, he has to back up his hot streak somewhere down the road. Until that point, take a pass.
