Goydos (24-under) finished second to Steve Stricker (26-under) at the John Deere Classic. Goydos etched his name in PGA Tour history with his opening round 59, the fourth player to accomplish the feat; Al Geiberger was first, 1977, followed by Chip Beck, 1991, and David Duval in 1999. In finishing second, Goydos earned a spot in the British Open. Stricker is already qualified.

RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2013

Goydos was limited to only six events last season due to a wrist injury, but he'll play this season on a medical extension. If he performs like he did in 2010 when he earned more than $1.3 million, he'll have no problem staying active on the PGA TOUR the entire season. Goydos should be on every squad in salary cap formats. In draft leagues, he'll probably slip to the end of the draft, if he's drafted at all.

2012

Goydos appears to be stuck in the low-to-mid $1-million range, no matter if he wins. Last year he did not find the winner's circle, yet he managed nearly $1.4 in earnings. The majority of that came from his third-place finish at The Players in May and another third-place finish at the J.T. Shriners Open in October. Goydos is going to show up every couple of months and make a run, but he's not going to be there every week. If you are looking for a golfer who can pull a top-three out of his hat any given week, he's your man. If you want someone to make the cut and finish in the Top-25 each week, look elsewhere.

2011

There's one thing you can count on each season and that's Paul Goydos making at least one run at a victory at some point during the year. Beyond that one run there might be nothing else, but leave it to Goydos to bring his best game at least once per season. It might not be the optimal strategy to securing his card each season, but judging by his numbers the last five years, it works. Goydos has found himself safely inside the top 125 each of the last five seasons, and there's no reason to think he won't be there again this year. He is very accurate off the tee and also has putted very well the last two seasons.

2010

If Goydos performs anything like he has the last three years, he'll show up two, maybe three, times this season and that's it. Not exactly the type of player you want on your team because you don't know in advance when he's going to appear.

2008

Paul Goydos won the Sony Open in Hawaii last season, and then took a nap... a nine-month nap. Goydos was the unexpected winner at the season's first full field event and after that he accomplished nothing. Perhaps he was he got complacent, perhaps he was truly a flash in the pan. Whatever the case, you can't justify selecting Goydos at this price.

2007

Goydos finished runner-up at the Chrysler Championship in late October 2006. In fact, he needed every bit of that finish to retain his card for 2007. I think that says it all. Goydos has been on Tour for a while, and there's no reason to think he'll be any better in 2007 than he was in 2006.
