May has withdrawn from the Viking Classic and Jim McGovern replaces him.

May finished second at the B.C. Open, his best finish on the PGA Tour since surgery to repair two bulging disks in his lower back.

May will receive a medical exemption for 15 tournaments on the PGA Tour next season because of a lower-back problem that has sidelined him for two years, the New York Times reports. He missed earning his PGA Tour card in qualifying school, which was his first tournament in two years.

If Colin Montgomerie can't play in next week's Accenture World Matchplay Championships, May will enter the field as the No. 64 seed.

May will attempt to play through his back pain at this week's Compaq Classic, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
