2013-14 Fantasy Golf Outlook

Wilson is your typical streaky golfer. He's good enough to win on just about any given week, but he rarely finds that form throughout the year. 2013 was a typical season for Wilson as he missed more cuts than he made, but once on the weekend, he played well. His number is a bit too high to invest in this year though because he'll need to find a win somewhere to show a significant increase on his previous year's earnings and you just can't count on that happening.

RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2013-14

Wilson is your typical streaky golfer. He's good enough to win on just about any given week, but he rarely finds that form throughout the year. 2013 was a typical season for Wilson as he missed more cuts than he made, but once on the weekend, he played well. His number is a bit too high to invest in this year though because he'll need to find a win somewhere to show a significant increase on his previous year's earnings and you just can't count on that happening.

2013

Mark Wilson picked up another win in 2012 (that makes five for those counting at home). More impressive, perhaps, was a third-place finish at the WGC Match Play event. After that, however, there wasn't much to write home about. Honestly, Wilson's play after his third-place finish was downright awful. A series of missed cuts and finishes in the 60s filled his resume for the remainder of the year. But if you've followed Wilson throughout his career, that's what you get. He'll look bad for long stretches, then pop up on the leaderboard one random week and eke out a win. Not exactly the type of player you want to spend your money on in a salary cap league, but he has some value in a standard draft, probably in the fifth round.

2012

Even though the PGA offseason lasts what seems like about two weeks, it's sometimes easy to forget things that happened in the previous season. Such as, Mark Wilson winning twice. Maybe it's because Wilson's wins both came before snow had cleared over much of the country. Wilson won the season-opening event in Hawaii and followed with another win at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Now, the cynic would point out that he didn't exactly beat the strongest fields in those two events, but let's remember, the season-opening event is made up of winners from the previous year. Whether those winners are ready to play in early January, in Hawaii, well that's another story. Whatever the case, Wilson just doesn't have the track record to justify a selection in a salary cap league. In draft leagues he could go anywhere from late third-round to early fifth round. Yes, that's quite the range, but Wilson is a difficult player to peg.

2011

Wilson has won twice in the last four seasons, but he simply could not find that form last year. Wilson finished with only two top-10s last season, though he earned seven top-25s. His problem seems to be just a lack of quality play on the weekend. Wilson's earnings range should be a bit higher than where he ended up last year, so he's got some value, but his upside is limited. Wilson holds more value in rotisserie leagues as he's very accurate off the tee and his GIR is solid.

2010

Wilson made a huge jump in 2007, when he went from a player struggling to keep his tour card to a player fighting for a spot in the Tour Championship. While Wilson has yet to reach that goal yet, he has managed to finish in the top-50 in each of the last three seasons. Wilson's ceiling is limited, but he's shown enough consistency in the past to warrant a mid-round selection.

2009

Wilson's most recent stint on the PGA Tour has been much more productive than his previous tries. Not only did he notch a win in 2007, but he followed that up with a very solid 2008 season. He may not have much upside, but he's becoming a fairly reliable player.

2008

Mark Wilson spent years just trying to hang on to his PGA Tour card, now after winning early last season, he can relax... for the next two years. The win from Wilson was completely unexpected, but he didn't do what many thought he would do, shut it down and be complacent. He played fairly well the rest of the season and earned two more top-10s and a handful of top-25s. Not exactly great, but for a guy who spent his entire career just trying to crack the top-125, not bad at all. Wilson is now at the crossroads, does he solidify his status on the tour, or does he slowly fade away like so many before him? He won't fade this year, though I dare say the upside isn't all that high either.
