RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2012

Trahan has already won twice on the PGA TOUR, but he's got little else to show for his time than those two wins. Trahan has also struggled when attempting to follow up a solid year, something he did last year. In fact, Trahan's earnings dropped by nearly $1 million from his $1.6 million total in 2010. On the positive side, he has a track record of performing well off of bad seasons, which would mean he's due for a good season in 2012.

2011

Although Trahan failed to earn a victory last season, he did have perhaps his most consistent year as he finished with seven top-25s. Trahan's new found consistency should lead to an improvement in the bottom line this season. Trahan's fine play the last two seasons can be directly attributed to his ball striking, the result of which is reflected in his No. 7 ranking in GIR the last two seasons. He also added about 10 yards to his distance off the tee last year, which shot him up the driving-distance rankings from 79th in 2009 to 10th last season.

2010

Trahan is hard to peg. He's already won twice on the PGA TOUR, but he's yet to show any sort of consistency. Last season he only carded three top-10s in 30 events. It's tough to take Trahan in this spot, because if he doesn't win, he isn't going to help.

2009

Trahan started 2008 with a bang when he won the Bob Hope in January, but he suffered the predictable hangover and didn't really get his game back again until late in the summer. The important part however is that he did eventually find his game. The problem looking ahead however is that he'll have a difficult time topping his number from 2008 unless he can find another win somewhere, which makes him an iffy selection.

2008

D.J. Trahan was on his way to a sub-125 finish on the money list when a late season runner-up finish spared him from that fate. It's not the first time that scenario played out for him either. The previous year he was in the same exact position when a win at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic saved his hide. It's never a good sign when a player can only produce late in the year.

2007

Trahan was in dire need of a good finish when the fall season rolled around last year. Through August, Trahan was on the outside looking in regarding the top 125. A win at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic in early September solved his tour card problems for 2007 and 2008. Trahan came up big when he needed to in October, but that doesn't erase what he failed to do for most of the season: make cuts. One autumn win does not make him a good choice for 2007.
