Persistence rules! Hed had a 6-stroke advantage late after he third round and his closing round of one-over 73 obviously wasn't a run-away win. British Amateur champion Mateo Manassero's first professional event went very well, 70-70-72-71, five-under, tieing for 29th.

Sweden's Andersson Hed, at eight-under, is the 36-hole leader at the European Tour Italian Open by one shot after building a six-under 66 in his second round. Tied for second at seven-under are Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez (68), Spain's Alejandro Canizares (66), Belgium's Niclas Colsaerts (67), Spain's Ignacio Garrido (67) and South African Hennie Otto (69).
