Last Week's Heritage

Summing up the Heritage win one must attribute Carl Pettersson's first-place GIR ranking followed by his first-place putts-per-GIR, 1.580. The greens at Harbour Town Golf Links are the smallest on the PGA Tour, which underscores Pettersson's accomplishment. When Pettersson got there, he got the job done.

Also, he averaged only 26 putts per round not shabby. He also ranked first with 22 birdies against six bogeys and one double bogey.

On the Golf Channel's post-tournament analysis, some time was dedicated to former U.S. Amateur champion, Colt Knost. Knost shot a 3-over 74 to finish third after being first or second in the first three rounds. Being somewhat sensitive to Knost's size, they came to the conclusion if Knost could successfully address his outside-of-the-ropes situation, he would have the confidence needed to nail down a win. The talent is beginning to come to the fore.

About three years ago, Pettersson went on a stringent diet and trimmed down quite a bit. His golf game also trimmed down dramatically. Pettersson then returned to his previous eating program, gained back weight and his game improved right along with
his weight gain. Could this happen to Knost?

This Week's Texas Open

Birdies will be very scarce on a course demanding superior ball striking and careful putting. Par-5s are tough, wind will probably be a factor and patience will pay off.

2011 saw 23 rounds of 80 or more, one through four, and the cut was 4-over.

2011 low rounds of the day:

First round: 67 - J.J. Henry, Stewart Cink*
Second round: 69 - Matt Every, Brandt Jobe, Steven Bowditch
Third round: 67 - Pat Perez*, Frederik Jacobson
Fourth round: 69 - Frederik Jacobson

Due to travel problems, we don't have the stats for our top-five players from last year's event, but here are the top finishers:

Brenden Steele - 8-under
Charley Hoffman - 7-under
Kevin Chappell - 7-under
Brendt Snedeker* - 6-under
Frederik Jacobson - 5-under
Pat Perez* - 5-under
Cameron Tringale - 5-under
