The Canucks placed Andersson on waivers Thursday, the Vancouver Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
Andersson appeared in four games for the Canucks earlier this season, but most of his campaign has been spent with Manitoba of the AHL. The 29-year-old winger is hoping no other NHL teams claim him off waivers, enabling him to return to the KHL.

The Preds are looking for scoring this year and believe that Andersson, 29, may finally be ready to contribute. The Preds originally drafted Andersson 11 years ago in the second round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. At the World Championships in Germany in May, Andersson tied for second in goals (six) and helped lead Sweden to the bronze medal. Andersson will likely be given a chance to compete for a roster spot at spring training in September, but chances are good he will open the season with AHL Milwaukee.
Andersson played for Karpat Oulu and HPK Hameenlinna in Finland last season. He combined to score 12 goals and 20 assists in 55 games for those teams last year. The Predators still retain the NHL rights to Andersson, but it looks like he'll spend yet another season in Europe.
Andersson played for HPK Hameenlinna in Finland last season. He scored six goals and seven assists in 23 games last year. The Predators still retain the NHL rights to Andersson, but it looks like he'll spend another season in Europe.
Andersson has spent the last couple seasons playing in Finland and Sweden developing his game. He scored eight goals and 10 assists in 48 games last season playing in Finland. Andersson will likely be playing in Europe yet again this season with little hope of making it to the Preds' AHL affiliate in Milwaukee.
After spending his junior years in the OHL, Andersson returned home to Sweden before really getting a chance to prove he can play in NHL. He's still only 24 though, so he might yet come back and give it another try.
