ANALYSIS
Schremp -- who was drafted 25th overall by the Oilers in 2004 -- hasn't played in the NHL since the 2010-11 campaign and has spent the bulk of the years since playing overseas. In 114 NHL games, the center notched 20 goals and 34 helpers, in addition to 214 points in 292 AHL contests.

After not being able to crack the lineup in Edmonton, Schremp seems to have found a home on Long Island. Schremp had 25 points in 44 games for the Islanders last season, including 10 on the power play. He was also pretty close to automatic in the shootout. Schremp has always had vast amounts of potential and may finally be starting to realize it with the Islanders. The one concern is that he's coming back from right meniscus surgery, but that took place in March and he should be OK to begin the season.
Schremp was a former first-round pick of the Oilers but has not been able to score at the pro level. If he were to be sent down to the AHL he would have to first clear waivers, which could open up a roster spot for him to begin the season. The Islanders, who have the number one waiver option, have made noises that they would claim him if given the chance.
Could be the bubble player for the Oilers, the last one cut, but the first player called up. Schremp is someone to keep an eye on in long term keeper leagues as he could be a future star. He has scored 40 goals and 129 points the last two seasons in the AHL.
Schremp's numbers with Wilkes-Barre of the AHL weren't terrible - 17 goals and 53 points in 69 games - but much more was expected out of him. Many people thought Schremp would make the Oilers out of training camp last season, but he only saw action in one NHL game near the end of last season. Schremp is only 20 years old though, so he still has plenty of time to reach his potential. He is one of the best pure goal-scoring prospects in the league, and given the Oilers' goal scoring problems towards the end of last season, Schremp should have a chance to be in Edmonton next season.
Tons of scoring potential. Schremp came close to making the team in 2005-06, but the Oilers decided it was best for him to finish out his eligibility in the OHL. He has the desire and the scoring ability to play in the NHL, but the team may elect to give him a bit more seasoning in the AHL. Monitor his training camp progress closely.
One of the top prospects in the Oiler system. Schremp is a tremendous scorer and deft passer. He's expected to be a first line player when he makes the jump and settles in to the NHL, but he may be a few years away.
