Brunnstrom has signed a three-year deal with Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League, MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Wings simply didn't have room on their roster for the once highly-regarded Swedish winger. After a hat trick in his NHL debut with Dallas in 2008, Brunnstrom has failed to live up to the hype of a late bloomer heralded as a potential top-six forward.

Thud. After a promising rookie season (17 goals in just 55 games), Brunnstrom came crashing down to Earth with just two goals and nine assists in 44 games. He was a frequent healthy scratch as the season wore on, and it's pretty clear that he doesn't fit in on one of Dallas' scoring lines with the emergence on Jamie Benn and Tom Wandell.
Brummstrom entered the 2008-09 season with loads of hype, having been courted by several teams before making his North American debut. A hat trick in his NHL debut did little to quiet the hype. His season totals (17G, 12A in 55 games) indicate that there is still some adjusting to the NHL game required, and he would often find himself buried on the bench after a poor shift early in the game under old coach Dave Tippett. There's upside here, though he'll need to be more responsible in the defensive end of things if he wants to start seeing ample ice time.
Dallas beat out numerous NHL heavyweights (Detroit, Montreal, and Toronto most notably) to acquire the rights for Brunnstrom this past offseason. His early play in the Traverse City prospects tournament has been spotty, but he should benefit from a full camp with the NHL squad. Where he fits, and how much he plays, will be determined by how he performs on the ice.
