Kristo was traded along with a second-round pick from the Penguins to the Hurricanes in exchange for Ron Hainsey on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
At one point, Kristo was seen as a talented forward with 20-goal potential in the NHL, but his star his dimmed since then. A second-round pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, Kristo was a big part of Team USA's gold medal-winning team at the 2010 World Junior Championship, and he scored more than a point per game over a 161-game career at the University of North Dakota. Since then, Kristo has played at the AHL level for four different franchises, tallying 153 points in 257 games. Don't expect Kristo to offer much from a fantasy standpoint if he ever receives a call to the big team.

Kristo, a 24-year-old forward, was acquired at the end of the 2012-13 campaign, with the Rangers sending Christian Thomas to Montreal in return. At 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, and blessed with speed and smooth hands, Kristo certainly fits the mold head coach Alain Vigneault is looking for in New York, and we wouldn't be surprised to see the winger make his NHL debut at least later this season. Whether or not the University of North Dakota alum comes out guns blazing will ultimately determine how long he remains with the Blue Shirts.
Originally drafted in the second round (56th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Kristo, a 21-year-old Minnesota native, collected 68 goals and 93 assists for 161 points, along with 83 penalty minutes and a plus-49 rating over four seasons with North Dakota. In 2012-13, he made his professional debut with the Hamilton Bulldogs. Acquired this off-season from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Christian Thomas, the 6'0, 190 pound right-winger is already technically familiar with the organization. Kristo, having helped (five goals, three assists) the United States to a gold medal at the 2010 WJC championships, has played with current Rangers like Derek Stepan, Chris Kreider and Ryan Bourque. While It's not out of the question he would get a call-up to Broadway this season, he's more of a target for keeper league owners than annual re-draft teams.
.
Kristo will return to the University of North Dakota for his junior season. The 21-year-old forward was drafted in the second round of the 2008 draft and immediately showcased his developing offensive skills during his freshman year. He slumped to begin his sophomore year, but started coming around mid-season when he suffered an embarrassing injury that resulted in frostbite to his toes after he lost a shoe while walking to his girl-friend's apartment on the UND campus. He's on the small side, but plays with a two-way sensibility and isn't afraid to engage.
