The Canucks inked Joslin to a one-year, two-way deal this summer. The 25-year-old blueliner has bounced between the minors and NHL the past five years, appearing in 114 games for the Sharks and Hurricanes. While he has had some offensive success in the minors, that production hasn’t carried over to the NHL, as he’s totaled just 16 points (4 G, 12 A) in his career. Joslin appears destined for another season spent bouncing between levels.
The Hurricanes struck a deal with the Sharks in February 2011 that resulted in Joslin packing his bags for Raleigh. It was clear that Team Teal had no room for him considering he appeared in just 53 games with the parent club since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. However, the ‘Canes inked the energetic defender to a two-year, $1.4 million deal in the offseason, making it likely that his role will increase this year. Fantasy owners can safely avoid him until he becomes a full-time player.
For the second consecutive season, Joslin split time between the Sharks and their minor-league affiliate, Worcester. In the minors, he has demonstrated proficiency in setting up plays, as evidenced by his 27 assists in 55 games. The Sharks love defensive two-way players and Joslin can be that guy, but he must improve on the three points in 36 games that he's given the parent club to date.
In 2008-09, Joslin split time between minor league affiliate Worcester and the parent club San Jose Sharks. He didn’t exactly make the best first impression in the NHL, ending up with zero points in 12 games. Fortunately for San Jose, the organization has plenty of talented blueliners to hold down the fort while young Joslin adjusts better to the professional game.
