Morin agreed to terms on a one-year contract with KHL club Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Morin hasn't appeared in an NHL contest since 2014-15 when he was with the Blue Jackets. The past two seasons, the winger has shifted around the AHL, suiting up for five different minor-league organizations. He registered 30 points in 63 outings last year -- not quite good enough to earn another NHL contract. Instead, the New York native will head to Russia to extend his playing career.

Morin is expected to assume a larger role in the Blackhawks offense this season after a modest, yet fruitful 24-game run in 2013-14, during which he potted five goals and six assists. The 21-year-old has excelled at every level of hockey, and while he won’t be earmarked for a top-six role, he should still easily double his output for this season. Or more.
This 22-year-old forward has had a few cups of coffee with the Blackhawks over the last few years, but he just couldn't stick. But this might finally be the season he makes the jump to the big club. Last year was his best year in the AHL (30 goals and 29 assists in 67 games) and he appears ready for a new challenge. He'll need time to adjust to the speed of the NHL game, but he could deliver fringe fantasy value in a few seasons.
Morin will part of a group of young players that could grab a spot on the Blackhawks coming out of camp and this will be his third attempt to make the club. He would probably already be in the NHL if his skating was a bit better. The abrasive winger with a great shot is still only 21 and another full year in the minors should help him continue to improve his skating and play without the puck. At his peak, he'll deliver you a couple of 60-point seasons. But that peak is a long way away.
Acquired from Atlanta in June 2010 as part of a blockbuster deal that included Dustin Byfuglien, Ben Eager and Brent Sopel departing from Chicago, Morin was able to get some experience in the NHL last season, appearing in nine games with two goals and an assist. He skated well during stretches and was brought up with forward Ben Smith to provide some more scoring. Morin's youthful exuberance should propel him to greater heights with this year's Blackhawks.
Morin headed to the Windy City as a part of the six-player trade with Atlanta in late June, which simultaneously sent Dustin Byfuglien, Brent Sopel and Ben Eager southbound. One of the biggest offseason stories in Chicago was the salary cap dilemma that forced the team to unload some of their key players, and that gives Morin more attention as a prospect trying to work his way up in the organizational ranks. Keep an eye on Morin as he could find his way on the 'Hawks roster as soon as the 2010-11 season.
