Hits waiver wire

September 28, 2017
Anaheim placed Tropp on waivers Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old forward has only appeared in one NHL contest since 2015-16, so he wasn't considered a serious contender to make the Ducks' Opening Night roster. If he goes unclaimed, Tropp will be assigned to AHL San Diego, where he'll likely remain for the rest of the 2017-18 campaign.

Tropp, a restricted free agent, had his career path rocked by a devastating knee injury that forced him to miss all but six games last season for AHL Rochester. He played 34 games for the big club in 2011-12 and was expected to challenge for a full-time role before his injury. With the Sabres’ roster wide open in training camp, the 24-year old winger will have a strong chance to win a spot, especially in a checking role.
Tropp saw his first NHL action last season, posting eight points in 34 games in a depth role with the Sabres. He was constantly shuttled back and forth between Buffalo and the AHL, but will have a chance to earn a full-time job on the Sabres' fourth line in this coming year. His 22 points in 27 AHL games last season suggest that there is some offensive upside, so keep an eye on his progression.
Tropp, the Michigan State product, enjoyed a successful first year of professional hockey in 2010-11, notching 40 points (10 G, 30 A) over 76 games with Portland. He will once again ply his trade in the minors, likely spending 2011-12 with Buffalo's new AHL affiliate in Rochester.
