Tambellini agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with Ottawa on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Tambellini has yet to make his NHL debut, having spent the past three seasons within the Rangers organization. With AHL Hartford last year, the winger notched 16 goals and 16 assists -- his third straight 30-plus point campaign for the Wolf Pack. Considering the Senators are in somewhat of a rebuilding mode (especially if Erik Karlsson leaves) the youngster could finally get a look in the NHL.

Tambellini is on the final year a three-year, entry-level contract with the Rangers. He has yet to hit NHL ice, but his AHL output -- 30 goals, 37 assists and 46 PIM -- with Hartford over the past two seasons shows that he can be a moderately productive skater, at least when it comes to offense. Tambellini did post a hideous minus-34 rating with the Wolf Pack last season, but then again, that team sat in the basement of the AHL's Atlantic Division standings.
One of the Rangers' most promising young talents, Tambellini should be coming to a dynasty league near you. The 20-year-old added 15 pounds of muscle to his frame last season and put together a splendid first full campaign with WHL Calgary, collecting 47 goals and 86 points through 71 games and an additional 26 points in 16 playoff games. Not surprisingly, the organization signed the WHL's fourth-leading scorer to an entry-level deal this past March, leading to wide speculation that Tambellini could find his way to ECHL Greenville and/or AHL Hartford during this upcoming season.
Obviously the name itself suggests pedigree, but the Rangers’ third-round pick in 2013 is certainly making a name for himself. After registering just four points and 31 penalty minutes with the University of North Dakota, Tambellini left the amateur ranks mid-season for Calgary of the WHL. Turns out, this lit a fire under the 19-year-old winger, going on to register 39 points in 31 games for the Hitmen and subsequently leading them in goals scored with five in nine playoff games. As long as Tambellini keeps shining and the Rangers continue to have depth issues down the middle, it will be sooner rather than later that he’s in an NHL training camp with a realistic shot of making the team.
With plenty of pedigree (son of former Edmonton Oilers GM Steve Tambellini and brother of former New York Islanders forward Jeff Tambellini), the Rangers used their third round pick of 2013 on Adam Tambellini. However, the party ended there for the 18-year-old who was injured and did not participate in the Rangers' prospect camp. Regardless, he has plenty of time to impress the Broadway brass as he's headed for the University of North Dakota in the fall. Obviously, he's still years away from joining the Rangers' system and can just be glanced at from afar in keeper leagues.
