ANALYSIS
Davidson last played in the NHL in 2020-21, appearing in six games for the Sabres, his seventh organization. The 31-year-old logged six points in 23 games with AHL Rochester last year. Given his age and lack of production in the minors, it's possible his NHL tenure is over.

Davidson failed to record a point in 12 games split between the Flames and the Sharks last year. He spent most of the season with AHL Stockton before a deadline deal sent him to San Jose, but he had to settle for a one-year deal with the Sabres in the offseason. Davidson is years removed from being a consistent NHL option -- he'll likely spend most nights in the press box in 2020-21 if he doesn't get sent down to AHL Rochester. Fantasy managers can look the other way on draft day, as Davidson won't make enough of an impact to be worth a roster spot.
The soon-to-be 27-year-old defenseman split time between three teams -- the Canadiens, Oilers and Islanders -- last season, recording four goals and seven points with a minus-13 rating in 51 games. Prior to this season, he actually held an even rating, but his plus-minus really went south when he joined the defensively inept Islanders for the second half. Specifically, he posted a minus-8 rating over 15 games for New York. Davidson has played at least 50 games in just two of his four NHL seasons, and he's tallied just nine goals and 22 points in 152 contests at the top level. As a result, it would take a very deep league to find him useful.
Davidson doesn't possess the same level of upside of many young defensemen in the Edmonton system. He suited up in 12 games for the parent club last season, but didn't show enough to have a spot locked up for 2015-16. As a result, Davidson will likely begin the season with AHL Bakersfield before joining the Oilers when injuries open up opportunities. Over the long haul, he projects as a bottom-pair or seventh defenseman.
The weakest part of the Oiler's team is their defense and while Davidson could be a part of the solution at some point in the future, that future won't be this season. He projects as a bottom-pair defenseman, so he'll be waiver wire fodder for most of his career.
