RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Jay Rosehill.
Rosehill begins his third tour of duty with the Flyers this year and there's little doubt what his role is with the team. With only eight points in 117 games, it's readily apparent he's not the sniper of the team. He and Zac Rinaldo are tasked with ensuring that the other team doesn't take any liberties with the rest of the team. Unfortunately, his lack of consistent playing time and one-dimensional stat line makes him a poor choice for any fantasy pool.
Rosehill is a 28-year-old aficionado of the sin bin who has waffled between the AHL and NHL for the last three seasons. It's hard to imagine him seeing consistent time with the Flyers, especially with Zac Rinaldo already providing much of the team's enforcing.
Rosehill tries hard, he really does. But even as a fighter he's not the greatest goon. He still delivers penalty minutes, win or lose, but he's not guaranteed to play. He's the Leafs' insurance policy in case Colton Orr's noggin isn't healed. His role will be determined in camp.
Rosehill is good for one thing: penalties. He racked up a combined 239 PIMs between the AHL and NHL last season and will likely do the same this year. But he might get them all in the minors.
Rosehill was signed as a depth defender for the AHL Marlies. No fantasy value here.
