RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Fred Brathwaite.
The 5'7 Brathwaite uses his excellent positioning and reflexes to make up for his lack of size. Brathwaite was signed by the Thrashers in July 2006 after they lost Kari Lehtonen, then Mike Dunham, and then Michael Garnett to injuries. Since then the injures have slowed and Brathwaite has only seen time in the AHL (20 wins, 2.74 GAA, .902 SV% last season). Brathwaite is about fourth or fifth on the depth chart so it would take another epidemic with the Thrashers keepers for him to see any time with the big club.
Kari Lehtonen is the man in Atlanta so for the newly signed Brathwaite (he played the last two seasons in the Russian Super League) to have any fantasy value either Lehtonen or backup Johan Hedberg will need to be injured. If he finds some playing time things could change dramatically for Brathwaite’s fantasy value. He has shown some flashes of brilliance in the NHL in the past (2.24 GAA with the Blues in 2001-02).
