RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Peter Schaefer.
Schaefer displayed some solid two-way play last year, but he was a disappointment as a scorer, with 9-17-26 in 63 games. Those numbers could improve, but he'll have to contend with a the influx of young and talented forwards that the B's have brought in.
Schaefer was a 45-50 point player while with Ottawa the past two seasons, and while he won't be playing with anyone of Daniel Alfredsson's ilk now that he's with Boston, he still has some upside if he can stick on one of the B's top two scoring lines. Another 50-point season is not unrealistic.
With the departure of Martin Havlat to Chicago, Schaefer will most likely line up with Daniel Alfredsson on the Senators' second forward line this year. A crafty and hardworking winger, Schaefer should see his offensive totals go up this season.
As we alluded to in our team preview of the Senators, the team likes his speed and tenacity for their checking line and he and Mike Fisher will likely be the Sens' top PK duo as well. The fantasy implications are that you shouldn't draft Schaefer this year.
