Krajicek has offensive ability but he was very inconsistent last season. The pressure will be off because of all the solid upgrades on the Bolts' blue line -- he won't have to do too much. But he really needs to step things up to prove he's worthy of an extended contract. His playing time -- and fantasy value -- will suffer if he doesn't. He's a risky pick.
Krajicek appeared in 39 games for the Canucks last year before undergoing shoulder surgery in February and missing the remainder of the season. He is expected to be back to full health at the start of training camp and will compete for the sixth spot on defense.
Krajicek got a boost of confidence when he was re-signed to a new contract this offseason. The young defenseman is essentially guaranteed a spot on the Canucks' blue line, but that doesn't necessary guarantee much in point production. He isn't worth a roster spot unless injuries occur ahead of him.
The "other player" in the deal that saw Roberto Luongo join the Canucks and Todd Bertuzzi leave, Krajicek is an excellent offensive talent on the blueline. His positioning is the key to his defensive play as he isn't a physical player. Krajicek is someone to circle if you are looking for a source of defenseman points later in the draft.
It's time for Krajicek to show what he's learned in his first two years as a pro. The Panthers made a move to get him in the first round of the 2001 draft because he has Brian Leetch-type talent. Unfortunately, Krajicek hasn't learned how to play in his own zone yet. Barring injuries, Krajicek will probably have to prove he can play response defense in the AHL before he gets the chance to prove that on the NHL level.
