Pilar just completed his 19th professional season and sixth playing in the Czech Republic. Selected by the Maple Leafs in the second round of the 2001 NHL Draft, the blueliner logged 90 games for Toronto, in which he tallied six goals, 24 assists and 42 PIM. After a final stint in the AHL with Chicago in 2007-08, the Prague native split time between the Czech league, the KHL and the Swedish league.

Originally a 2nd round pick by Toronto in 2001, Pilar was a top prospect in the Leafs system until a viral myopathy in his heart put his career into jeopardy. Pilar has recovered and had a good season in the Czech league last year scoring 28 points in 52 games. He signed this off-season with Atlanta and will be competing for one of the last few defense spots. Pilar has a small amount of upside but even in the best scenario he will only have minimal fantasy value.
Health issues derailed Pilar's somewhat promising career. Now just a depth NHL defenseman at best.
This sweet-passing, hard-shooting defender with below average skills in his own zone is lost to the Leafs for the first half of 2005-06 with a recurrance of a mysterious heart condition that felled him in 2003-04. He's a fringe fantasy producer at the best of times; strike him off your draft list.
