RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Denis Grebeshkov.
Grebeshkov made a statement back in the 2008-09 season when he posted 39 points (7G, 32A) in 72 contests with the Oilers. But what a difference a year (and an injury) makes. The Russian sustained a serious groin injury as a member of the Predators last season, which caused Nashville to pass on presenting him with a qualifying offer. Until this restricted free agent signs on with a team, and it's proven that his groin injury is behind him, his name shouldn't come up in very many fantasy hockey conversations.
Grebeshkov is a solid blueliner with limited offensive potential. With Sheldon Souray and Lubomir Visnovsky expected back for the Oilers, he certainly won't see much power play time and his fantasy value is limited at best
Grebeshkov had three goals and 18 points in 71 games last season. Not someone you should be targeting in your draft. He has upside but was also very inconsistent.
Grebeshkov has all the tools to be a top-four defenseman for the team. He has good wheels, can shoot, run the power play, play physical -- you name it. Now, he just needs to be more assertive with his skills on both ends of the ice. His development should continue with some NHL experience this season, but he needs to perform well in camp to jump up the depth chart. If he does make the club, expect some stumbling blocks in his first full year; but he's one to keep an eye on throughout the course of the season wherever he lands.
Grebeshkov signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Russian Super League for 2006-07.
Grebeshkov put up solid offensive numbers on the Manchester Monarchs last season, and is going to be given a shot at starting with the team out of training camp. He's been paired with Lubomir Visnovsky, so look for the veteran to expel some knowledge onto his pupil.
