RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Garrett Stafford.
Stafford has played just seven career NHL games in three seasons, notching just two points with Dallas in 2008-09. Unless something goes terribly awry with the Phoenix blue line this season, Stafford will remain with the AHL affiliate for the vast majority of 2011-12.
In 2009-10, Stafford spent the season in the AHL with Grand Rapids. While there he scored 45 points (11G 34A) and went a plus-3. Stafford could be considered an offensive-minded defenseman, but when he focuses on offense, his defensive skills become compromised. Stafford has an outside shot to making this Coyotes team, but realistically, he will spend more time in the AHL with San Antonio.
Stafford played a few games for Dallas last season, but spent most of the season in the minors and figures to follow a similar path this season. He's nothing more than emergency depth for the blueline.
Minor-league blueliner and nothing else.
Stafford is best known for taking a vicious stick to the face in the AHL, but is a decent hockey player as well. He may see some time in the majors this season.
Assigned to Cleveland of the American Hockey League in late September, 2005.
