A reliable depth defenseman for the Capitals over the two seasons, the 30-year-old defenseman recorded one goal and five points in 18 games in the 2016-17 season. The offseason departures of Karl Alzner, Kevin Shattenkirk, and Nate Schmidt have opened the door for Chorney to compete for a full-time place in the lineup, but he faces stiff competition from youngsters like Madison Bowey and Christian Djoos, and his fantasy value remains extremely limited even in deeper formats.
Chorney was the Oilers' second-round draft pick in 2005, though he's had just a single goal and six assists in 54 games over the past two seasons with the big club. He will fight for a roster spot with Edmonton in camp, but is not among the top-six blueliners as the current roster is being constructed. He is likely to begin the season in the AHL and get a call-up if necessary.
Over the past two seasons Chorney has played 44 games for Edmonton. He has yet to light the lamp and only has three assists in those games. With a strong training camp he could begin the season with Edmonton, but will have little to no fantasy value.
Chorney had his first taste of the NHL last season playing two games. The Oilers second round pick in 2005 will once again start the 2009-10 season in the AHL and be a call up once injuries hit.
Chorney was the Oilers second round pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He has left college a year early to pursue his pro career. Chorney is solid in all aspects of the defenseman position and the Oilers are hoping he progresses quickly through their system.
Chorney is solid in all aspects of the defenseman position. He is expected to return to North Dakota for his junior year, but he does have a nice future ahead of him.
Chorney will again suit up for the University of North Dakota in 2006-07.
Chorney is a solid blueline prospect. He's not huge (5-foot-11, 180 pounds), but he is a solid two-way defender. Just out of high school, he's a few years away from seeing time with the Oilers.
A relative squirt on the blue line, this 5'11" and 182 lb puck mover plays a sound positional game and contributes well on offense. He has strong hockey sense, is a smooth skates with an explosive first step and has good vision, all of which bode well for a future on the second defense pairing in the NHL.
