RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Michael Vernace.
The 26-year-old defenseman split his time last season between the Norfolk Admirals, San Antonio Rampage, and Connecticut Whale in the AHL. He's not known for his scoring prowess and will likely spend much of the season with the Whale, so owners can divert their attention elsewhere.
Vernace is a puck-moving defender who has decent size and solid offensive acumen. Unfortunately, he's inconsistent in his own zone and doesn't seem to like to take the body. And that will keep him in the AHL this season and next.
Vernace is a left-shooting, offensive defender who tallied 72 points in his last OHL season. He has potential in the other team's zone but he suffers in his own. Expect him to toil for the Bolts' AHL affiliate to see if he can fix his defensive shortcomings.
Will begin the season playing for the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League.
Vernace will probably open the season in the minors. The 20-year-old is worth considering in the last round in your keeper league. In the 2005-06 season, playing for Brampton of the OHL, he put up 72 points (10 goals and 62 assists) as a defenseman.
