RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Martin Gelinas.
Gelinas brings 17 seasons of NHL experience to the Predators this year. He signed as a free agent from the Panthers during the off season. Although Gelinas is 10 years removed from his 30-goal ability, he does have a lot to offer the Predators this season. However, that won't translate into much fantasy hockey value. Gelinas will be expected to spur some offensive spark on the team and a 40-50 point season should be in store considering the talent around him.
The scrappy veteran put up a respectable 17-24-41 while suiting up in every Panthers game last season. With the team upping the ante on offense, Gelinas won't be relied on as much to contribute offensively. Expecting any more than 35 or 40 points from him this season would be a mistake.
Gelinas has lacked consistency in his numbers from year to year, which sort of fits the production you'll see from week to week. Despite only putting up 35 points in 2003-04, Gelinas bears watching. If an injury leaves you scrambling for a forward, check to see if Gelinas is on fire. The Panthers will count on him to lead by example on one of the top two lines.
