Past Fantasy Outlooks
Zaba currently plays for HC Bolzano of the Italian Serie A and is very unlikely to play in the NHL in the near future. Zaba had 23 wins and a 1.93 goals-against average last season in Italy.
Zaba, a former eighth-round draft pick of the Kings back in 2003, appeared in just one game for the Rangers last year. He came in relief of Henrik Lundqvist and stopped 14 of the 16 shots he faced. Zaba will likely spend all of the 2010-11 season with the AHL Hartford Wolf Pack, as the Rangers brought in veteran Martin Biron to be the everyday backup to Lundqvist. Zaba posted a 6-12-2 record with a 3.15 GAA in 25 games in the AHL last season. Even if he gets an unlikely call due to an injury, he’s not worth a look in fantasy leagues.
Zaba will not make the Rangers' season-opening roster unless either Henrik Lundqvist or Stephen Valiquette go down, and he would still only be a reserve netminder. He'll see plenty of reps in Hartford.
Zaba had a .915 save percentage in the ECHL last season. Zaba should battle for the starting job in the AHL this season. He is at least two years from being ready to play in the NHL.
Zaba appeared in 33 games with the Colorado College Tigers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), posting a 15-13-4 record, along with a 2.39 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.
