RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Kevin Quick.
Quick is talented; there's no doubt about that. But he reminds us of gifted but immature athletes from other sports ... say football and basketball. You know, the ones who sometimes forget that hard work is the thing that will translate that talent into success. Quick carries a lot of baggage from his days in college and just hasn't shaken that immaturity during his minor-pro years. He's only just turned 23 but he and his lazy ways probably aren't going to see the light of the St. Pete's Times Forum unless it's from the visiting dressing room.
Quick is a smooth-skating, highly-skilled offensive defender who just hasn't found his stride since turning pro. He struggled in the A last season and needs to prove to Bolts' brass that he can channel his immense potential into consistent on-ice performance. Otherwise, there may not be another contract coming from the Lightning.
Quick played in three leagues last season -- ECHL, AHL and NHL. The kid has all-round talent but he needs to gain greater discipline in order to succeed.
Quick is a long way from making an NHL club. If he does, he'll be a servicable third-pairing guy unless he can improve his decision making and expand his offensive game. It remains to be seen if he can shake some off-ice problems and improve his citizenship in the community.
