RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Tomas Marcinko.
Marcinko is currently playing for HC Koice of the Slovak Extraliga after playing last season in the KHL.
At one point it was thought that Marcinko could be a consistent offensive player in the NHL, but 20 goals over four seasons in the AHL have put that projection to bed. He will more than likely play another season at Bridgeport (AHL).
At one point in his career it was thought Marcinko would be a solid offensive player in the NHL, but a total of 12 goals in the last three seasons at the AHL level has put those thoughts to bed. He will spend the bulk of this season in the AHL, but could get another cup of coffee in the NHL if the Islanders run low on centers.
The past two seasons in Bridgeport of the AHL have produced similar numbers for Marcinko, four goals each season to go along with a handful of assists. Unless he was to have a breakout season in 2010-11 he is destined to spend his career in the AHL.
Marcinko struggled in his first taste of the AHL last year, recording just 11 points in 58 games. He doesn't project to be a real scoring threat but has the skill and size to be able to contribute on both ends of the ice. He needs more AHL experience before the talk of an NHL job can be discussed.
Marcinko has good size and a decent skill set on both ends of the ice. He can put some points on the board, but is also sound defensively. He still needs time to develop, but if his progress continues, he may be a serviceble forward for the Isles in the future.
