ANALYSIS
Santorelli signed with Geneva Servette of the Swiss League over the summer after failing to secure on NHL deal, but will now call it quits after a nine-year professional career. The 30-year-old Northern Michigan University product garnered 64 goals and 74 helpers in 406 NHL contests, most notably notching 41 points with the Panthers in 2010-11.

Santorelli was on his way to a massive season when his season ended ten games after Christmas with a torn labrum. He was white-hot in the Canucks' training camp and soon found himself on the team's second line with Ryan Kesler and Chris Higgins. He had 26 points in 39 games headed into the Christmas break, good for a 54-point pace. He is extremely versatile and can play right wing or center. He'll battle recent KHLer Petri Kontiola for that second-line wing gig and we really like his chances there, as long as that labrum is fully healed. He could deliver on that 50-point promise beside Nazem Kadri and Joffrey Lupul, and that makes him a serious sleeper in most formats.
Santorelli signed with the Canucks this offseason as a depth option at center. The 27-year-old pivot has shown flashes of productivity at the NHL, specifically during the 2010-11 season when he totaled 41 points in 82 games with the Panthers. Since that 41-point campaign, Santorelli has managed just 15 points in his past 94 NHL appearances over the past two seasons. The Canucks have a stable of center prospects who will be competing for a roster spot during camp. Depending on the performance of those prospects in camp, Santorelli could carve out a role on the third or fourth line, or be pushed to purely a depth role.
Santorelli tallied 41 points (20 G, 21 A) during his first season with the Panthers in 2010-11. He finally had the breakout season owners had long hoped for and the Panthers rewarded the center with a new two-year deal. Santorelli's career-high 41 points was good enough for second on the Panthers this past season. With some better forwards to work with this season, we'd expect Santorelli's point production to meet or exceed his 2010-11 totals.
It could be worthwhile to watch how Santorelli performs in his first season with Florida. He could fit in nicely with the Panthers thanks to an asset package that includes speed, energy and adequate skill when handling the puck. Better yet, the door is wide open for Santorelli to assume second-line duties this season. He has the talent to run away with the job.
Selected by Nashville Predators round 6 #178 overall 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Played last season for the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL and scored 21 goals and 21 assists in 80 games.
