RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Mike McKenna.
McKenna has played just about everywhere over the course of his lengthy career. After a successful career at St. Lawrence University, McKenna has bounced around the ECHL, AHL, and has seen spot duty in the NHL, playing in seven games for the Devils, Blue Jackets, and Coyotes since 2010. Last season for AHL Portland in the Coyotes organization, McKenna went 27-18-6 while posting a 2.24 goals GAA and a .926 save percentage in 52 games. Those numbers are impressive, but he's never been able to translate that success over to the NHL level and likely won't at this stage of his development. With Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya locked in as the Panthers' two goalies, itís unlikely McKenna gets in more than a game or two in the NHL this season.
McKenna, an AHL veteran goalie will provide some organizational depth for the Blue Jackets.
McKenna usurped the AHL netminder slot from Jeff Frazee in 2010 and stuck around until the end of training camp before returning to Albany. He's one of several goaltending prospects in the system and should see plenty of action in the minors.
