Sonne struggled mightily to start the 2010-11 season (no points in first 18 games) and never really got on track for the AHL Peoria Rivermen. His 100-point season in the WHL three years ago is a faded memory after amassing just 33 the past two years with the Rivermen. Sonne embraced a more defensive-minded role toward the end of the season and may have to re-invent himself in order to make it to the NHL.
Sonne, 21, came to the Blues' organization after a 100-point season for the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL. So, his 24-point follow up with a minus-15 for Peoria in the AHL is seen as a disappointment. He'll need to prove he can translate his junior scoring touch to the pros. He'll participate in the NHL Prospects tournament in September and begin a second straight season in Peoria.
