RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Matt Climie.
Climie provided the Canucks’ organization with goaltending depth at the minor league level last season, serving as Eddie Lack’s backup for Chicago of the AHL. In 32 appearances, Climie finished 20-11-0 with a 2.52 goals-against average and .920 save percentage. The 29-year old backstop is primed to spend the majority of the 2012-13 season in the AHL once again, but he could get a look from the Canucks if the team needs goaltending depth in-season.
Other than a lone appearance with the Coyotes, Climie spent his 2010-11 season with San Antonio of the AHL. The 28-year-old backstop went 26-22-3 with a 2.64 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in 55 appearances for the Rampage. The Canucks signed him this offseason to provide the organization with depth at goaltending, but with Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider present, Climie will likely be stuck in the AHL.
Last season Climie appeared in 43 games in the AHL with the Stars and ranked in the top ten in the AHL with a 2.46 GAA and a .919 save percentage. He carried his team to the finals of the Calder Cup and was able to play in one NHL game with the Stars. For 2010-11, he will compete for the number one goaltender position in San Antonio with Josh Tordjman and unless something significant happens with the Coyotes, Climie will wear a Rampage sweater for the duration of the campaign.
Climie posted solid numbers in the ECHL, including a league best goas against average, before being called up to Dallas late in the season for three starts. Dallas brought in veteran Alex Auld to serve as Turco's backup this season, so a full season in the minors awaits Climie barring injury.
