RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Aaron Volpatti.
With just two goals in 41 games last season, Volpatti’s primary contribution in fantasy leagues comes from the hits and PIM categories, but even there, his production was fairly pedestrian. With the emergence of younger checking-line players like Michael Latta and Chris Brown, the 29-year-old will need an impressive camp to prove he belongs in the Caps lineup on a regular basis.
Volpatti is a fourth-liner for the Caps who came over from the Canucks halfway through the seson and was surprisingly re-signed by the Caps during the offseason. Volpatti saw 33 games but earned just one point on one assist in 2012-2013. Volpatti has no fantasy value.
Volpatti was limited to 23 games with the Canucks last season after suffering a torn labrum in his shoulder in December 2011. When healthy, Volpatti played a fourth-line role for the Canucks, finishing with one point and 37 penalty minutes. He was re-signed to a one-year deal this offseason and will have a similar role during the 2012-13 campaign.
The 26-year-old forward made his NHL debut last season, notching two points in 15 games with the Canucks. He projects as a low-scoring grinder at the NHL level and will likely be a fringe player again this year.
